Stef Lemmens (1993, BE) is an artist and imagemaker whose practice emerges from a personal confrontation with aspects of contemporary society that feel alienating, or absurd—influencers on social media, the intangibility of online hate speech, the alienation from our fellow humans or the absurdity of living in enormous houses with an even bigger debt... Each project stems from this conflict, leading to the development of new methods that appropriate and reframe these realities, questioning their role and meaning.

His work is inseparable from his own presence. His body often becomes a canvas, surrounded by participatory installations, mobile constructions, or household actions that he (sometimes literally) carries through public space. The images he creates exist in tension—both familiar and estranged—seeking to evoke curiosity rather than fear. For him, an image is not just a visual representation but a detour toward connection, a catalyst for dialogue, and an invitation to self-reflection.

By embedding his work into everyday environments, he deliberately moves beyond traditional art spaces, ensuring that his practice remains accessible and open to interaction, allowing everyone to engage with it in unexpected ways
