The fleeting, trying to catch up with the meaning, installation, 2020
For this project I was inspired by influencers on social media. Within the area of lifestyle and fashion, these influencers are known for sharing photos in which they are surrounded with exotic locations, beautiful clothing or while having unique experiences. I selected various influencers from different countries and erased them from some of their shared images. By placing them in an installation, I want to invite the viewer to physically reenact and exaggerate the act of swiping through their images. By doing this all of the external elements will disappear, making it possible to start looking for an underlying perspective towards these influencers and their nature. The remains of these scraped images are poured in a glass and represent the hidden accumulation of our online images, which have a fleeting nature but seem to remain online forever, resulting in a pile of ‘digital dust’.
